Jageshwar Dham is one of India's most ancient and sacred Shiva pilgrimage sites, comprising a cluster of 124 stone temples nestled in a valley of towering deodar cedars. Dating back to the 7th–12th centuries, these temples represent some of the finest examples of Nagara-style Himalayan temple architecture. The main shrine is believed to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.The Archaeological Survey of India maintains the site as a protected national monument of great historical importance.
Perched on Kashyap Hill at around 2,116 metres, Kasar Devi Temple is an ancient shrine dating back to the 2nd century CE. Binsar Wildlife Sanctuary sits at an elevation of 2,420 metres in the Jhandi Dhar hills and offers some of the most breathtaking panoramic views of the Himalayan peaks — including Kedarnath, Chaukhamba, Trishul, Nanda Devi, and Panchachuli. The sanctuary is a paradise for birdwatchers, with over 200 species recorded.The Zero Point viewpoint at the summit is the crown attraction — on a clear winter morning, the snow-draped peaks appear close enough to touch.
Katarmal Sun Temple is one of the most significant sun temples in India outside of Konark, built in the 9th century CE by the Katyuri kings. The main temple, dedicated to Burhadita (the Sun God), is surrounded by 44 smaller subsidiary shrines within the complex.The temple sits atop a hill with commanding views of the Kosi river valley below. Though less visited than Jageshwar, it is a hidden gem for those interested in Kumaoni art, history, and the ancient craftsmanship of the Himalayan region.
Located in the very heart of Almora's historic bazaar, the Nanda Devi Temple is the town's most cherished landmark and spiritual centre. Dedicated to Nanda Devi — the presiding deity of Uttarakhand — the temple comes alive during the grand Nanda Devi Mahotsav fair held every September, drawing thousands of devotees from across Kumaon. The surrounding bazaar of traditional copper shops and local sweets like 'bal mithai' and 'singori' makes the short walk here a complete cultural experience in itself.
